Department of Corrections

Overview

Welcome to the Cheshire County Department of Corrections. Our goal is to provide you with clear and relevant information about our facility, the services we offer, and the principles that guide our work every day. The Department is committed to maintaining a safe, well-managed correctional environment while offering programs and supports that encourage accountability, personal growth, and successful reintegration into the community.

Our philosophy is rooted in the belief that humane correctional management and respect for human dignity are essential to effective rehabilitation. We provide structured opportunities for treatment, education, and skill building for offenders who seek positive change in their lives. These opportunities may include substance-use and mental-health programming, educational and vocational offerings, reentry planning, and other services designed to reduce recidivism and strengthen long-term outcomes.

Safety and security remain our paramount concerns, both for the public and for those entrusted to our care. Our trained correctional staff work continuously to ensure the secure operation of the facility through professional supervision, evidence-based practices, and clear standards of conduct. At the same time, we strive to maintain an environment that is orderly, respectful, and conducive to rehabilitation.

The Cheshire County Department of Corrections also collaborates closely with community partners, courts, law enforcement, behavioral-health professionals, and treatment providers to support a coordinated approach to corrections. Through this collaboration, we work not only to uphold the law but also to contribute to a safer, healthier, and more resilient community.
